About Fire Magic
Fire Magic has been building outdoor grills since 1937, when founder Harold Keck bet that Americans would want to move cooking and entertaining outside. He partnered with Bob Peterson to form RH Peterson Co., and nearly ninety years later the grills are still designed and manufactured at the company's factory in City of Industry, California. That matters for more than bragging rights: domestic manufacturing means tight quality control and long-term parts availability on a grill you are expected to keep for decades.
The construction is where Fire Magic separates from the pack. Bodies and housings are heavy-gauge, appliance-grade 304 stainless steel, and the burners are cast stainless steel rather than stamped or welded tube, which is why they carry a lifetime warranty. On top of them sit patented Diamond Sear cooking grids, a stick-resistant stainless design that spreads heat evenly and lays down clean sear marks. Premium models add 110-volt hot surface ignition, halogen oven lights, LED back-lit knobs, an infrared rotisserie back burner, and the optional Magic View Window, a glass panel in the hood that lets you watch the cook without dumping heat.
The lineup runs from the flagship Echelon Diamond, with its black glass control panel, digital touchscreen, and Bluetooth control, down through Aurora, Choice, and the traditional Legacy series in Custom, Deluxe, and Regal trim. Sizes span 24 to 48 inches in built-in, freestanding cart, patio post-mount, in-ground post, and drop-in countertop configurations, in natural gas or propane, with charcoal, electric, and gas/charcoal combo models available as well. Beyond the grills, Fire Magic builds a complete outdoor kitchen line: built-in and portable pizza ovens with thermostatic control, the Echelon Gourmet Griddle, side and power burners, refrigeration, access doors and drawers, vent hoods, and prefabricated islands sized to the grill heads. There are also Multi-User and ADA-accessible versions for shared and commercial installations.
Fire Magic is for the buyer building an outdoor kitchen once and expecting it to outlast the patio around it. The warranty reflects that: lifetime coverage on cast stainless burners, Diamond Sear and rod stainless grids, and stainless housings, 15 years on brass valves, manifolds, inner liners, porcelain, and back burner assemblies, 10 years on electric grills, griddles, and pizza ovens, and 5 years on flavor grids, infrared burners, and charcoal grills.
Fire Magic FAQs
Where are Fire Magic grills made?
Fire Magic (a brand of RH Peterson Company) has manufactured outdoor kitchen appliances in Los Angeles, California since 1937 — nearly 90 years of continuous US production.
What are the differences between Aurora, Echelon Diamond, and Choice?
Echelon Diamond is the flagship line (backlit knobs, hot surface ignition, digital thermometer, magic view window). Aurora is the mid-premium line with the same cast stainless "E" burners at a lower price point. Choice is the entry-level Fire Magic — same core construction, fewer premium features.
What are Fire Magic's cast stainless "E" burners?
Fire Magic pioneered the E-shaped cast stainless steel burner in 1959. The E-shape distributes heat evenly across the cooking surface with no cold spots, and cast stainless holds up to salt air, high heat cycles, and decades of use. Every current Fire Magic gas grill uses E burners, and they carry a lifetime warranty.
Do you stock Fire Magic pizza ovens?
Yes — Backyard BBQ carries the Fire Magic outdoor pizza oven line including the Aurora Built-In Pizza Oven and matching outdoor kitchen components.
What warranty does Fire Magic offer?
Lifetime warranty on cast brass valves, cast stainless "E" burners, and stainless steel housing. 15-year warranty on backlit knobs. 5-year on all other parts. Coverage is transferable within the original property.
