Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about shipping, returns, refunds, payment, and warranties.

Choosing a grill

Natural gas vs propane — which should I choose?

+
They cook at the same temperatures, so the choice is mostly about your setup. Propanetanks make a grill portable and require no installation — best if your patio doesn’t have a gas line. Natural gas connects to your home’s gas supply, so you never run out mid-cook, but a licensed plumber typically runs the line. Most built-in and outdoor-kitchen installations go natural gas; freestanding grills lean propane.

Can I convert a grill between propane and natural gas?

+
Most manufacturers (with a few exceptions like some Weber and Napoleon models) sell conversion kits for their grills. The kit changes the orifices to match the new fuel pressure. Have a licensed gas professional install it— improper conversion is a safety risk and can void the warranty. Check the product page or the manufacturer’s site for kit availability before you buy.

What do BTUs actually mean — and do higher numbers cook better?

+
BTUs measure how much fuel a grill can burn per hour, not how well it cooks. A high BTU number doesn’t guarantee better performance — heat distribution, burner design, and build quality matter more. Use BTUs to compare similar-size grills from the same brand; comparing across brands is mostly meaningless. Cooking area (in square inches) is the more practical spec for matching the grill to your needs.

Will my grill arrive assembled?

+
Freestanding grills typically arrive partially assembled — the cart and hood are usually attached; you connect the side shelves, fuel hose, and a few hardware pieces. Built-in grills ship as a single unit ready to drop into a kitchen cutout (no cart to assemble). Outdoor kitchen islands ship as components and require on-site assembly. Specifics vary by product — check the product page or the included instructions.

Shipping

Do you offer free shipping?

+
Yes — free standard shipping on orders $49.99 and above to the contiguous 48 United States. Smaller orders ship at live carrier rates calculated at checkout. See the shipping policy for the full breakdown.

How long does shipping take?

+
Most orders process in 1–2 business days. Standard shipping then runs 3–7 business days via UPS or FedEx. Freight items (built-in grills, kitchen islands, oversized equipment) typically take 7–14 business days. Expedited and express options are available at checkout for an additional charge.

Do you ship internationally?

+
We currently ship only within the contiguous 48 United States. We don’t ship to Alaska, Hawaii, US territories, APO/FPO addresses, or international destinations at this time.

How do I track my order?

+
When your order ships, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a tracking number and a link to the carrier. You can also look it up directly on the Track an order page using your order number and the email used at checkout.

What if my order arrives damaged?

+
Contact us within 7 days of deliverywith photos and your order number. We’ll work with the manufacturer and carrier to resolve it quickly. For freight items, note any visible damage on the delivery receipt before signing — this protects the damage claim.

Returns & exchanges

What is your return policy?

+
30-day return window from the day your order is marked delivered. Items must be in their original, unopened packaging and in new condition. Opened but unused items are subject to a 15% restocking fee. Assembled or installed items can’t be returned. Full details on the return policy page.

How do I start a return?

+
Email customerservice@backyardbbq.com with your order number and reason for return. We’ll send a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number and the correct return address (some items ship back to the manufacturer, not to us).

Who pays for return shipping?

+
Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility unless the item arrived defective or we made an error. For freight items, we can arrange return freight at a discounted rate — contact us for a quote before shipping anything heavy.

How do exchanges work?

+
The fastest path is to return the original for a refund, then place a new order for the replacement. If the replacement costs the same or less, reach out and we’ll do our best to streamline it.

Refunds

How long does a refund take?

+
Once your return is received, we inspect it within 2–3 business days. If approved, the refund is initiated within 1–2 business days. Depending on your bank, the refund typically posts within 5–10 business days after processing. Plan on about 2–3 weeks total from the day we receive your return.

How are refunds issued?

+
Refunds go back to the original payment method used at checkout. We can’t refund to a different card, account, or payment type — make sure the original card is still active before requesting a return.

Payment & security

What payment methods do you accept?

+
All major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) processed securely through Square. We also accept Apple Pay and Google Pay at checkout.

Is my payment information secure?

+
Yes. Payments are processed through Square, a PCI-compliant payment processor. We never store credit card information on our servers, and the site uses SSL encryption end-to-end.

Products & warranties

Are products covered by manufacturer warranties?

+
Yes. All products include the full manufacturer warranty. Coverage terms vary by brand and product — see the product page or the included paperwork for specifics.

Do you offer price matching?

+
Yes — if you find an identical item at a lower price from an authorized dealer, contact us with the link and we’ll match it. The item must be in stock and available for immediate purchase from the competitor.
